Computers in the high-performance computing cluster room on the Campus Inffeldgasse work on computational processes for even years at a time. A sophisticated cooling system provides the right operating temperature. Three men are closely connected to this system. Gernot Prem proudly surveys the roughly 400-cubic-metre room. The many fans at the back of the 24 19-inch cabinets standing in the middle of the room produce a constant humming noise. The cluster room was built in the basement of the formerly newly opened Production Technology Centre on the Campus Inffeldgasse in 2012. "We had the opportunity to plan and implement a room for high-performance computing from scratch," explains Prem, who is employed in the Computing & Application department of Services and actually designed the computer centre.
