The opening polonaise was the start of a glamorous ball night.
"Always on the ball with smart technology" was the slogan of yesterday's "Ball der Technik" 2016. The ball revealed some surprises in the form of a welding contest and tiaras made by a 3D printer. The focus on Smart Production and Services shaped the tradition-steeped ball night in which names familiar to the Styrian world of academia, regional economy and politics echoed through the rooms of the Congress Graz. Harald Kainz, Rector of Graz University of Technology, opened the long-established ball night. Among others, the ball guests included Sabine Seidler, Rector of TU Wien, Wilfried Eichlseder, Rector of Montanuniversität Leoben, Christa Neuper, Rector of University of Graz, Hans Jürgen Prömel, President of Technische Universität Darmstadt and President of TU9, AVL CEO Helmut List and Kathryn List, SFL technologies owner Johann Höllwart, Magna-Manager Wolfgang Zitz, Karin Schaupp, Chairwoman of TU Graz University Council, and city councillor Gerhard Rüsch. Welding contest and tiaras made by a 3D printer. Together with the industry partners MAGNA, ANDRITZ and SFL technologies, Graz University of Technology set both tone and slogan of the ball as "Always on the ball with smart technology." One highlight of the evening was a digital welding simulator, which gave guests an insight into smart production of the future.
