Prof. Ewald Benes, Institute of Applied Physicsk of the TU Wien, has been honored as receiver of the 2015 Distinguished Service Award (Gold Whistle Award) of the International Congress on Ultrasonics (ICU). Prof. Ewald Benes demonstrating the volume and the reach overtone spectrum (with high ultrasound portion) of the golden Tritone Samba Thriller Whistle Prof. Sigrun Hirsekorn (incoming ICU Secretary General), Prof. Antoni Sliwinsky (Laudator), Prof. Ewald Benes (President of 2007 ICU Vienna, Receiver of the 2015 ICU Gold Whistle Award), Prof. Bogumil Linde (Promotor, President of 2011 ICU Gdansk and outgoing Chairman of the ICU Board), Prof. Nico Declercq (President of 2015 ICU Metz) Prof. Antoni Sliwinsky (Laudator), Prof. Ewald Benes with his wife Dr. Brigitte Benes in receiving the distinciton, Prof. Bogumil Linde (outgoing Chairman of the ICU Board) Ewald Benes is also designer of the ICU Logo and together with Dr. Stefan Radel, receiver of the 2013 ICU Early Career (Silver Whistle) Award in Singapore, creator of the ICU Relay Homepage that functions in the www as link between the individual congresses of the series. With the appointment as receiver of the Gold Whistle Award Prof. Benes' outstanding contributions to the promotion and cohesion of the international ultrasound community has been acknowledged. 1993 all started after the Ultrasonics International UI '93 Conference that took place at the TU Wien and was locally organized by the award receiver, when Professors Ewald Benes from Vienna, Joachim Herbertz from Germany, Leif Bjørnø from Denmark and Lawrence Crum from USA decided to found a new congress series - the World Congress on Ultrasonics WCU was born.
