As support for the BLM movement spread around the globe in the days following the murder, protesters increasingly took aim at their local brands of racism and discrimination. Black Lives Matter has thus become a global rallying cry and a reminder that, even in the twenty-first century, this message still needs to be repeated around the world. One of the many things that Black Lives Matter speaks to is the fact that there is still much to learn and understand for privileged cultural groups with regard to systemic inequities. Learning and understanding are prerequisites for affecting genuine change.
