Following the Senate’s approval, the University Council will decide on the application for reappointment at its next meeting.

At the 140th meeting of the Senate on 15 December 2025, the current TUW-Rector, Jens Schneider, expressed his interest in being reappointed for a second term of office (2027-2031).

In the structured exchange process that followed, culminating in a discussion between the Rector, the spokespersons for the groups represented in the Senate, and the Senate Chair Team, the following outcomes were achieved, among others:

  • The Rector actively supports opportunities for exchange and networking among the central administration units.
  • The reporting channels and contact points for people who have experienced harassment or misconduct at TU Wien will be restructured and communicated by the beginning of summer 2026.
  • The university overhead policy ( Kostenersatz Richtlinie ) will be revised by the end of June 2026.
To ensure more effective involvement of the Senate, a Senate member will be appointed to the existing "Digital Transformation" core team (headed by the Rector) to actively support the effective further development of IT services.
  • In addition, a working group will be established to examine possibilities for extending tuition fee exemptions for working students.
  • Jointly, methods will be developed to make active participation in TU Wien committees more visible and measurable , to give greater recognition to our colleagues’ commitment to university self-governance.

On this substantive basis, the vote on the Rector’s reappointment took place at the 142nd meeting of the Senate on Monday, 16 March 2026. The motion to reappoint Rector Schneider was approved by 22 out of 26 votes in the Senate.

As a next step, the University Council will also vote on the motion for reappointment at its meeting on 26 March 2026. The corresponding official announcement of the voting result will follow thereafter.
