What are the European Framework programmes?

The European Union’s Framework Programmes for Research and Innovation are the main funding instruments to strengthen research, technology and innovation in Europe and to foster the European Research Area (ERA). They provide support for collaborative projects, researcher mobility, and partnerships between academia, industry and society.

The current programme, Horizon Europe (2021–2027), builds on the success of Horizon 2020 and earlier Framework Programmes. With a budget of €95.5 billion, it addresses global challenges, supports excellent science, and promotes innovation to enhance Europe’s competitiveness.
