From November 18 to 20, 2024, the fuTUre fit Convention took place at the Karlsplatz campus. A milestone in the strategy development process of TU Wien: The reports of the working groups were the focus of the discussion rounds.

The three thematic clusters "Technological Progress and Innovative Research", "Education and Teaching" and "Identity, Sustainability and Career Paths" formed the programme framework for the fuTUre fit Convention. On the first two days of the conference, the teams of the 10 fuTure fit working groups presented their results in detail to the participants in order to listen to and discuss their questions and comments. The 10 images created in the course of the graphic recording offer a lasting visual illustration of the presentations and discussions.

On the third day, the working group leadership teams reflected on their reports in conversation with the members of the Sounding Board Dorothee Dzwonnek, Konstantina-Maria Giannakopoulou, Franz Kainersdorfer, Peter Oswald, Norbert Pfeifer, Johanna Stachel and Johann-Dietrich Wörner. Conclusion: TU Wien is on a very promising path with the fuTUrefit process, because it uses the challenges faced by universities worldwide as an opportunity to actively shape the future on the basis of a broad, participatory process.

High quality for working groups

A total of around 150 members of the working groups, colleagues of academic and general staff, students and managers, have performed a real feat of strength in working on their focus topic over the past three months. Meetings, fishbowls, documentation and reporting, all’of this had to be done in addition to the daily business in research, teaching and administration. The Rectorate would like to thank all members of the working groups for their enormous commitment. It pays off, because through this work, we are jointly putting TU Wien on the path to a future in which we anticipate global developments, meet complex challenges with a willingness to find solutions and at the same time change the culture at the institution. Ad on: The fuTUre fit Convention has been certified according to the criteria of the Austrian Ecolabel for Green Meetings and Events.

The next step into the "fuTUre"

In the first half of December, all TU members will have the opportunity to read/listen to and comment on the 10 working groups and the video recordings of the fuTUrefit Convention on the fuTure fit website. Together with these hopefully numerous comments and the many other contributions from the fuTUrefit process so far, the reports of the working groups represent a valuable input for describing our current reality at TU Wien and the many opportunities we have for our future development. This allows the Rectorate to reflect on the formulation of a forward-looking and courageous strategy on the basis of a very differentiated picture of reality and possibilities that reflects the diversity of our university.
