JKU Christmas Lecture-2025

The Christmas lecture of the Institute of Catalysis took place under the motto "Make STARS, not WARS".

In the well-filled lecture hall 10, around 150 interested and excited listeners were able to see for themselves (in the truest sense!) the compatibility of the Star Wars franchise with the Christmas theme when chemical and physical phenomena from both worlds were presented. From cold lightsabers to melting metal plates, glowing oranges and exploding death stars, the professors Sabine Hild, Oliver Brüggemann and Marko Hapke and their colleagues presented a colorful and rather loud show of experiments and accompanying stories and explanations.

The chemical background was briefly explained to satisfy the auditorium’s appetite for knowledge. After the "bang" end of the event, the culinary appetite was satisfied with punch and cookies and the opportunity was taken to chat in a relaxed atmosphere. The next opportunity to experience experiments live will be at the Long Night of Research on April 24, 2026!
