The University of Salzburg is participating in the MORE-Project of the Austrian Universities: The aim is that refugees have the possibility of accessing a university education.

Admission Procedures
Approved persons who are entitled to asylum and asylum seekers can be enrolled as external students. The tuition fees will be waived. With regard to enrollment at the University of Salzburg, the participants of the MORE-Initiative, in cooperation with the Students’ Union, will provide optimal support. In preparation for the process of personal registration, participants of the MORE-Initiative should the Counseling Center of the Students’ Union ( Beratungszentrum der ÖH ), located at the Uni-Park Nonntal. Personal enrollment can then take place at the Admissions Office ( Studienabteilung ) during the posted business hours.

Attendance of Selected Courses
Recognized persons who have been granted asylum and asylum seekers can attend courses (choosing from different subjects) that have been specially selected and compiled for them ( zusammengestellte Lehrveranstaltungen ). In the lectures, theological, cultural and socio-political issues, as well as the latest advances in technology will be discussed. From 28 September, 2015, there will be a detailed online directory of the courses offered. There are no tests to be undertaken, but attendees do receive a confirmation of their successful participation.

German and English Courses
In cooperation with the Language Center, courses for the acquisition of German, and if necessary, of English will be offered. The courses are intended to be the basis of a simple understanding of daily activities and relevant everyday topics. The subject matter included in these everyday topics will be determined according to the needs of the participants.

Access to the University Library
The University Library Salzburg opens its doors and provides its services free of charge to persons who have been approved and granted full asylum and asylum seekers. All library locations are easily accessible. In addition, the media collection (analog and digital) can be used in libraries, and in the near future, from mid-October, special tours for the MORE audience will be offered. The publishers Langenscheidt and the Reise Know-How Verlag provide free and non-bureaucratic online dictionaries available in Arabic, Kurdish, Pashto or Dari. in both German and English can be found on the homepage of the University Library Salzburg ( www.uni-salzburg.at/­bibliothek ).

ÖH "Buddy" System
In cooperation with the Austrian Students’ Union (ÖH) Salzburg, there are students who are dedicated to welcoming newcomers. These students are called "Buddies" and they are prepared not only to help those granted asylum and asylum seekers in their university studies, but also to help them adjust to daily life. The refugee project of the Students’ Union Salzburg includes a Language Café, city walks and the Friend System. The Language Café is designed to help the new students learn German or to improve upon their already existing German language skills. The city walking tours include facilities and places located in the center of town that are relevant to refugees. The city walks are guided in several languages (Kurdish, Arabic, Turkish etc.,) and are aided by using individually created city maps. "Friends" commit themselves to accompanying and helping the refugees as they become more familiar with everyday life here.

Participation in Sports Courses
From 1 October, it is possible to register for USI sports courses. The application should be made in person at the University Health Center (UFZ), located on Otto Holzbauer Straße 1-3, 1st floor (www.uni-salzburg.at/ufz). Here, applicants will receive detailed individual advice so that they can attend courses tailored to their needs. Registration Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 12:00. University Orchestra
The University Orchestra Salzburg would be pleased to accept refugees in its ranks. In particular, strings (violin, viola, cello, double bass), who played in an orchestra in their home countries, are welcome. In individual cases, proficient players of brass or percussion might be considered. The first rehearsal takes place on Tuesday, 6 October, at 19:30 in the Audimax of the Faculty of Natural Sciences; afterwards, regular rehearsals will take place every Tuesday. Those interested can report - initially, regardless of the availability of an instrument - to the artistic director, Martin Fuchsberger ( m.a.fuchsberger(at)gmail.com ), or Christine Blume ( christine.blume(at)sbg.ac.at ). If the interested person does not possess an instrument, we will strive to procure one for him/her.
