On 27 November 2024, the prizes of the City of Vienna for the year 2024 and the sponsorship awards were presented in the ballroom of Vienna City Hall. Michael Trauner, Head of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at MedUni Vienna’s Department of Medicine III, was honoured in the "Medical Sciences" category.
In its citation, the expert jury recognised Michael Trauner not only as an "internationally recognised top researcher, but also as an outstanding mentor and doctor. As a researcher, Michael Trauner succeeds in combining clinical issues with basic research: Numerous publications and research projects deal primarily with the elucidation of molecular disease mechanisms in fatty liver and disorders of bile secretion or jaundice."
"The prizes of the City of Vienna honour extraordinary achievements in the fields of architecture, fine arts, media art, literature, journalism, music, science and popular education. The awards are intended to recognise and encourage the next generation of artists and scientists. ’With their exceptional achievements, the prizewinners in all categories have contributed to Vienna being recognised even more strongly as the world capital of culture and science. They are ambassadors of the spirit, innovation and creativity that characterise Vienna," said Mayor Michael Ludwig at the award ceremony.
