Michael Fuchsjäger receives the ESR gold medal

Michael Fuchsjäger, Head of the Department of Radiology at the Medical University of Graz, received the Gold Medal, the highest award given by the world’s largest radiology society, the European Society of Radiology, at the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) 2025 in Vienna on February 26, 2025. It was awarded by the President of the European Society of Radiology, Andrea Rockall, in recognition of Michael Fuchsjäger’s outstanding achievements and internationally recognized leadership role in radiology and, in particular, in breast diagnostics and intervention. In his acceptance speech, Michael Fuchsjäger, current President of the European Society of Breast Radiology (EUSOBI) and the Austrian Society of Senology (ÖGS), emphasized the importance of this award and thanked his colleagues and family for their support, without whose commitment and understanding his successful work would not be possible.

Finally, Michael Fuchsjäger emphasized the team spirit at all levels that makes success possible in the first place. His message to the younger generation was to follow their dreams, do what they love and live the "passion of radiology".

It is a non-political, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and coordinating the scientific, philanthropic, intellectual and professional activities of radiology in all European countries.

The ECR is the annual meeting of the European Society of Radiology (ESR), which represents over 142,000 members from 188 countries worldwide. The ECR is one of the largest medical congresses in the world and attracts thousands of congress participants every year. This year, 12,522 participants attended ECR 2025. With hundreds of companies showcasing their products at the technical exhibition, it is also one of the largest medical exhibitions in Europe.
