MedUni Vienna not involved in AUVA’s plans for Vienna-Brigittenau trauma center

As the sole employer of medical staff at University Hospital Vienna, MedUni Vienna has so far not been involved in the AUVA’s plans for the Vienna-Brigittenau trauma center (formerly Lorenz-Böhler). The existing shortage of nursing staff and operating room capacity at several of University Hospital Vienna’s clinics requires an urgent solution and must not be further exacerbated by the AUVA’s reported decisions, MedUni Vienna demands in a press release.

The unilateral decisions of the AUVA reported in the media regarding the takeover of services of the AUVA Trauma Centre Vienna-Brigittenau by the University Hospital Vienna are not possible without further ado for reasons of civil service law, formal organizational reasons and due to unresolved issues relating to management functions and cooperation.

Due to an existing cooperation agreement on joint operational management and due to the financial flows between the federal government and the City of Vienna, the involvement of the responsible ministries, the federal government and the responsible bodies of the joint operational management of MedUni Vienna and University Hospital Vienna is essential.

The shortfall in acute operations caused by the events surrounding the Vienna-Brigittenau Trauma Center could at best be covered by the staff of MedUni Vienna, which provides all the medical staff at University Hospital Vienna, if appropriate nursing staff were made available.

The current, long-known and well-documented shortage of nursing staff and OR capacity at several University Hospital Vienna clinics requires an urgent solution and must not be further exacerbated by the plans in connection with the Vienna-Brigittenau Trauma Center.
