A total of 34 researchers were newly admitted to the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW). Julia Lajta-Novak, Habil-Stipendiatin für Englische Literaturund Kulturwissenschaft, Universität Salzburg, was appointed to the "Junge Akademie".

Lajta-Novak ist damit eine jener ForscherInnen, die im Rahmen ÖAW-Wahl am 7. April 2017 durch die Mitgliedschaft für ihre herausragenden wissenschaftlichen Leistungen und ihr Ansehen in der Fachwelt ausgezeichnet wurden.

Die Bandbreite der Fächer der von der Akademie berufenen WissenschafterInnen reicht von Archäologie über Demographie und Molekularbiologie bis zu Südasienkunde und Volkswirtschaftslehre. Als Ehrenmitglied begrüßt die Akademie den ehemaligen Präsidenten des Europäischen Gerichtshofs für Menschenrechte, Luzius Wildhaber.
