The first year of the Molecular Precision Medicine Master’s degree program has been completed at MedUni Vienna. The graduates received their diplomas at an academic ceremony in the Van Swieten Saal together with the graduates of the Master’s degree program in Medical Informatics.
The Medical Informatics Master’s Programme, which was introduced in 2021, is dedicated to the development of diseases and their treatment at a molecular and mechanistic level. The program, jointly established by the Medical University of Vienna and the University of Vienna, brings together scientists from the fields of basic, translational and clinical research and provides students with comprehensive knowledge about the opportunities, challenges and future prospects of precision medicine.
The Master’s degree program provides in-depth knowledge in the field of human medicine at a molecular and mechanistic level. Graduates acquire basic knowledge of clinical manifestations, the process of identifying molecular targets for therapeutic approaches, drug development and production, clinical test procedures and the evaluation of therapeutics in the clinic. This broad spectrum of knowledge enables graduates to bridge the gap between research and clinical application.
Graduates also have core competencies in bioinformatics including programming, data mining and analysis and are thus qualified for a career in the field of data science. The program teaches the ethical and socio-economic issues related to precision medicine in the public health environment and thus offers the prerequisites for a career in basic research, clinical, translational and biomedical research, both in the academic and public sectors as well as in companies.
In the past academic year, 12 students completed the Master’s degree in Molecular Precision Medicine and eleven students completed the Master’s degree in Medical Informatics at MedUni Vienna.
