Dr. Walter Sauer lehrt am Institut für Wirtschaftsund Sozialgeschichte der Universität Wien und ist Vorsitzender des Dokumentationsund Kooperationszentrums Südliches Afrika (SADOCC) sowie der Österreichischen Namibia-Gesellschaft. Das Gespräch widmet sich dem Engagement von Walter Sauer in der Anti-Apartheid-Bewegung und für das südliche Afrika und fragt nach seinen speziellen Erfahrungen. Leseproben geben Einblickin sein neuestes Buch ,,Expeditionen ins afrikanische Österreich. Ein Reisekaleidoskop" (Mandelbaum Verlag, Wien, 2014).

As part of the MORE programme of Austrian universities, 40 asylum seekers and recognized refugees participated in German language courses at the Language Centre of the University of Salzburg. The end of the semester celebration included a small buffet. The programme will be continued in the summer term. In addition, a series of workshops for volunteers will be introduced to continue linguistic support to those who qualify.

Estrogen facilitates learning vocabulary. Salzburger researchers launch study on the influence of hormones on language processing.

In a collaborative project, linguists and neuroscientists at the University of Salzburg investigate the influence of hormones on how the brain processes information in learning language. The focus is the question of what role the female sex hormone estrogen plays in neurocognition of language. There is evidence that estrogen facilitates the learning vocabulary.
