Post-Doctoral Researcher in Image-based Machine Learning (60 -100%)
As a member of the "ARAWEX - A Rather Advanced Weed Exterminator" project team inside the Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Energy Technology you will contribute to the development of a novel mobile robot with the ability to identify and remove weeds in pastures. Activities will include:
Developing and adapting approaches and techniques for image-based weed detection, classification, and localization using machine learning.
Collecting image training sets together with the team and external research collaborators
Designing, implementing and testing models
Deploying and testing these techniques in real-world settings and within the laboratory
Interacting and collaborating with diverse industrial and research partners, at HSLU and across Switzerland and Europe.
Contributing to follow-on research proposals
Communicating research results to a range of audiences, including industrial partners and the scientific community
Potential involvement in teaching activities
PhD in computer science, electrical or mechanical engineering, robotics or related discipline
Solid theoretical background in machine learning, deep learning and data analytics or proven fast-learner
Experienced with machine learning toolboxes and frameworks in particular with the application to image-based feature extraction, classification, and pattern recognition. Strong programming skills in Python, C#, C++ is an asset.
Software development experience in a shared code base environment
Willingness to work outdoor during field testing
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative and multi-disciplinary scientific or commercial environment
Demonstrated success in expressing ideas clearly through oral and written skills in English (preferably also German) language
