The Austrian Educational Competence Center for Biology Education (AECC Biology) conducts scientific research in the field of teaching and learning of Biology and seeks to fill the position as soon as possible of a Senior Lecturer with 100 % of the regular working time (§48 VwGr. B1 lit. B, Post-Doc, in accordance with collective bargaining agreement, 14 monthly wages). We pursue innovative, research-, teaching- and developmental projects with practical relevance in a national and international context and contribute to the advancement of Biology education in schools and other learning institutions. Current research foci of our team are the development of students’ scientific inquiry skills, sustainable environmental education, professional development of (future) Biology teachers and the effectiveness of informal learning environments.

Duration of employment: 4 year/s

Extent of Employment: 40 hours/week, which include a teaching assignment of 14 hours scientific classes on average per semester Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement : §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Job Description:
As a senior lecturer you will be involved in teaching in the academic discipline of Biology Education (14 SWS/semester) in the Biology Education modules of the study program "Biologie und Umweltkunde" in the Bachelor and Master of Education program for the Sekundarstufen (teaching degree for all Austrian school types grade 5-13). Within these tasks the successful candidate will be substantially involved in the maintenance and development of the newly established "Biology and Computer Science Research and Learning Lab" at the University of Vienna ("Forschungs- und Lehrlabor Biologie- und Informatikdidaktik"), that uniquely triangulates teacher education, citizen science and research in the field of Science Education and Computer Science Education.

In the periods during which courses are not held we expect the successful candidate to participate in research and to contribute to scientific publications as well as articles with innovative Biology lessons. Also, we expect the involvement in the professional development of teachers. In addition, the University of Vienna expects the successful candidate to fulfil administrative tasks, in particular the administration of teaching. In case of a positive evaluation at the end of the term of employment, the employment contract may be extended for an indefinite period of time.

Profile:
Prerequisites for a successful application / admission requirements:

a. Doctoral degree/PhD in Biology Education or Biology
b. Several years of teaching experience at a post-secondary educational institution
c. you should enjoy working with highschool and university students as well as teachers

Desirable qualifications are:
a. Teaching experience in middle- and highschool level Biology
b. Readiness to qualify for conducting empirical education research in the field of Biology Education, if not already qualified for
c. Readiness to network with middle- and school headmasters and teachers within your work in the Biology and Computer Science Research and Learning Lab at the University of Vienna
