Institute for Information Systems and New Media

The Institute for Information Systems and New Media is currently inviting applications for a 20 hours/week third-party-funded project staff member position (post-doc, employee subject to the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement for University Staff - Angestellte/r gemäß Kollektivvertrag für die Arbeitnehmer/innen der Universitäten; gross monthly salary: Euro 1,901.95) or a 30 hours/week third-party-funded project staff member position (pre-doc , minimum gross monthly salary: Euro 2,148.38, recognition of previous employment - if relevant to the advertised position - possible). These employee positions will be limited to a period of three years, starting on April 15, 2019 (commencement date subject to change).

Responsibilites:
This scientific and technical project-team position is offered in collaboration between the Institute for Information Systems and New Media (WU Vienna) and AVL List GmbH. The successful candidate will contribute to HybriDLUX (FFG #867535), a 3-year nationally funded Industry research project on model-driven software development and domain-specific modeling in industry.
We are looking for talented candidates who will join our efforts to design, to implement, and to evaluate lighthouse software solutions for AVL List GmbH, the world-leading company for vehicle test beds. HybriDLUX allows for embarking on an industry career (AVL List GmbH) or on a research career (WU), while actively contributing to and shaping the future of flagship Open Source software projects (Eclipse).
In this job, you will ...

  • plan, prepare, conduct, and report on usability studies involving industry experts.

  • review, develop, and implement static and dynamic analysis techniques on domain-specific models (e.g., firmware models and test models).

  • contribute to implementing software prototypes based on Java, Eclipse, and UML.

  • acquire a deep understanding of software-development needs in complex industry settings

  • assist in related research and teaching activities at the Institute for Information Systems and New Media.

  • For predocs: Work on your dissertation project in the course of WU Vienna’s doctoral PhD program.

  • For postdocs: Formulate your own scientific questions and contributions arising from the empirical data collected and critical-analytical work conducted in the project (in particular on tooling and usabillty support in software-language engineering, as well as on static and dynamic analysis techniques).

Your profile:
What we expect from you?

  • For predocs: You have a Master degree (or equivalent) in computer science, software engineering, and/or business informatics ("Wirtschaftsinformatik").

  • For postdocs: You have a Doctorate degree (or equivalent) in computer science, software engineering, and/or business informatics ("Wirtschaftsinformatik").

  • You have a very good knowledge of software-engineering practices (architecture, design, and implementation), incl. model-driven software development (metamodeling, model transformations, code generation).

  • For postdocs: Methodical knowledge and skills in conducting empirical studies (e.g., literature reviews, interviews, surveys).

  • Ideally: You have experience in Java development projects using the Eclipse IDE, including the Eclipse Modelino Framework (EMF) and Xtext.
