Balancing Global Tensions in the Multilingual Classroom

(Soziologische Vorträge: -How are migration-related diversity and social inequalities addressed by contemporary welfare institutions? Current research and recent debates-)

Empirical research across Europe (and beyond) highlights how welfare state institutions are currently under pressure to develop new ways to confront migration-induced diversity in the overall populations they serve. In this series of gust lectures, we will engage in an international exchange examining different institutional challenges and strategies as to how migration-induced diversity is tackled or ignored by welfare state institutions. The ways to approach such research are manifold and include looking at practices and perceptions of multilingualism within such welfare state institutions, analysing the care crisis from an intersectional perspective, and focusing on the experiences of migrants in public institutions. The guest lectures will also address the potential social inequalities that result from the current transformations that are taking place across varying welfare state institutions and settings in Europe.
