Dr. Sascha Frohwerk has taken over the leadership of the Bachelor’s degree programme in Business Informatics & Digital Transformation and the Master’s degree programme in Business Informatics at FH Salzburg starting from the summer semester of 2024. The native German, who previously worked at a university in Berlin and as a management consultant, brings extensive knowledge in the areas of Data Science, Strategic Management, and digital transformation. With his expertise, he aims to further bridge the gap between IT and business and inspire prospective students for the exciting field of Business Informatics.

Sascha Frohwerk was born in Lübeck, Northern Germany, and, after completing an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk, pursued a degree in Economics at the Christian-Albrechts-University in Kiel. While initially a minor subject, the field of Business Informatics gained more focus during his doctoral studies (summa cum laude) in 2010 at the University of Potsdam. As a consultant, he subsequently worked primarily in the areas of Data Science, integration of business application programs, and digitization strategy. He provided consulting services to transportation companies, automobile manufacturers, and other companies in Germany and Europe.

His research at the Hasso-Plattner-Institute at the University of Potsdam focused on exploring the possibilities of digitization. Within the project, he and his team developed a system for optimizing the locations of retail stores and public institutions using Data Science models. From 2016, Sascha Frohwerk worked as a university lecturer for IT management, economics, and digital transformation at the FOM University for Economics and Management in Berlin, in addition to working as a freelance consultant and trainer.

Both programs aim to train experts in digital transformation at the intersection of

"The interfaces between IT and management extend across all’areas of our lives. Data is generated everywhere, but especially small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as public associations, struggle to generate economic benefits. Those who study Business Informatics have numerous opportunities to meaningfully advance digitization. It requires individuals from both worlds, with technical understanding and management know-how, who can explain technical solutions to customers," explains Sascha Frohwerk about the professional profile of Business Informaticians.

If you wish to get to know the new degree programme director, you have the opportunity to do so at the FH Salzburg Open House on March 16, 2024, from 9 am to 5 pm.
