On September 2nd and 3rd the Airpower 2022 took place in Zeltweg.
The Research Unit Machine Elements and Transmissions for Aviation of the Institute of Engineering Design and Product Development was represented this year as an exhibitor at two booths at Airpower 2022 in Zeltweg, the largest air show in Europe. On site, Prof. Michael Weigand and his team demonstrated, among other things, the skills that can be acquired with a degree course at TU Wien in the research area of machine elements and transmissions for aviation. The focus was on application-oriented teaching, research and development in the field of helicopter gearboxes and the gearboxes used in new, more environmentally friendly engines.
Prof. Weigand was particularly impressed by the more than 200 aircraft and helicopters in the static display and the flight demonstrations. Visible signs were also set at Airpower, e.g. during arrival and departure, in order to make the event as environmentally friendly as possible. The participation also offered the opportunity to exchange ideas with all leading representatives of the federal and state governments, research funding and industry, to make new contacts and to deepen existing ones.
The event consisted of various elements. Spectators could not only learn more about aviation from the aviation industry as well as research and teaching, but also enjoy a varied supporting programme at the airfield and visit the Military Aviation Museum.
As in previous years, the demonstrations by the Austrian Air Force, the Flying Bulls and international military aerobatic squadrons were particularly impressive, as these pictures show really well.
