Our Center for Energy is seeking to hire new Ingenious Partners for our location in Vienna:



  • You will lead large and mid-sized research projects for cities and private stakeholders and develop solutions that will support decision makers in meeting their cities zero carbon strategies.
  • Together with a team of multidisciplinary experts you will focus on the development of new approaches and solutions for smart cities and neighbourhoods around the world.
  • Specifically, you lead and involve in national and European smart city projects, like NetZeroCities .


  • You will develop smart city concepts in close cooperation with our urban planning, energy, and mobility experts.
  • You will conceptualize and implement innovative monitoring frameworks and indicators that are tailored to local and regional urban contexts.
  • You successfully acquire European research as well as consultancy projects dedicated to smart city development.
  • In your projects you will collaborate with municipalities, engineers, architects and urban planners in Austria, Europe and beyond.


  • Your expertise in smart city indicators in the field of energy, mobility, climate and urban planning leads cities towards comprehensive monitoring routines and informed decision-making.
  • You will become a known player in the European and Austrian smart city community.
  • You publish in peer-reviewed journals that highlight findings from the research project and present research findings at international conferences.


Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner*:

  • MSc. in urban/spatial planning, civil engineering, smart city related studies or specialisations
  • At least 5 years proven work experience in smart city development with a focus on concept development and monitoring frameworks
  • Good cross-sectoral understanding of urban development
  • Smart city related partner network (science & industry)
  • Ability to initiate and conduct research and consulting projects
  • Competence in quantitative and qualitative methods, in particular indicator systems; knowhow in urban greenhouse gas reporting is an asset
  • Experience in planning and conducting physical or virtual workshops
  • Interested in writing scientific publications
  • Very good communication skills in English and good command of German

What to expect: The minimum gross annual salary according to the collective agreement is EUR 48.062,-. The actual salary will be determined individually, based on your qualifications and experience.
