The Colorum project is intended to offer opportunities for encounters and invite people to rediscover the city together, pause for a moment and take a seat. Emin Music, a graduate of the Design & Product Management degree programme at Salzburg University of Applied Sciences, impressed the jury of the BIG SEE Product Design Award 2023 in the Urban Design category with his creative seating furniture for the city of Hallein.
The Colorum project gives the old town of Hallein a new look with seating furniture that reflects the cityscape in its design. The design of the objects was based on aspects of the town’s history, so that they fit holistically into their surroundings, serve as a point of orientation and give the old town a little more color. For example, powder-coated steel in striking red serves as a signpost through the streets of the city center and can be associated with the city’s coat of arms. This shows a salt carrier between two percussion runners on a red background.
"Colorum is intended to offer opportunities for encounters and invite people to rediscover the city together, to pause and take a seat," says Emin Music about his furniture. The seating surface of the objects is designed with a functional pattern of holes in the shape of salt crystals. "We wanted to make reference to the important aspect of salt production in the region," the designer continues.
Classic and durable materials were used to emphasize the simple design of the benches and chairs: Concrete meets bent steel and is complemented in a modern design language to create seating furniture that stands for stability and durability. The products were manufactured by GMT-Wintersteller GmbH from Kuchl.
Emin Music already knows his way around award ceremonies: Last year, the designer received the European Design Award for his bachelor’s degree project "Latis" - an innovative e-bike.
